Can you pass the next Faith Test? by Elaine Davenport (Thursday, October 18, 2007)

I don’t care who you are; whatever you believe.  You can be a Muslim, Atheist, Buddhist, Agnostic, Political Activist, Christian…no matter what category you put yourself in…you are going to get a faith test.  You can be famous like Brittany Spears, Juanita Bynum-Weeks, Bishop Weeks, Paula White, Pastor Randy White, Beyonce.  Whoever you are, your faith will be tested.  There are two questions that come to my mind…will you know it and can you pass it?

I was talking to a  friend of another faith and from their perspective; they said “faith won’t pay your bills.”  I didn’t get upset because I know that everyone’s frame of reference is not the same.  However, I do know this:  the definition of faith is the same the world over.  It doesn’t matter what religion you are, how much money you have, how long you’ve been saved, how close you are to God, or even if you don’t believe in God; the definition of faith is still the same.

WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF FAITH?

Well according to Hebrews 11: 1

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

WHAT DOES WEBSTER’S SAY?

firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2): complete trust

It is very likely that all day long, our faith is tested.  Mine was tested last night when I was trying to sleep.  Around 2: 30 in the morning, I was struck with a horrible pain.  It jolted me awake.   It was in my head.  The last place that I wanted it to be. I began to decide if there was any Tylenol in the cabinet.  I “thought” I had seen my husband buy some recently.  Then, I needed to decide if I would get up out of the bed.  Let’s be clear, deciding to go get medicine for me  was not a faith move.  I cannot speak for anyone else.  Because of the journey that I’ve been on; God has shown me how to speak healing scriptures over myself.  So to do that (speak healing scriptures and to lay my hands on myself) would be faith.    So, I knew what I had to do.

Next…

I laid my hand on my head and healing scriptures began to pour out of my mouth.  I was in faith.  I knew that God would heal me.  Right after the pain went away; I decided to get some insurance.  So, I went to the kitchen  to get some Tylenol.  Guess what?  There wasn’t any there.  I heard a voice inside me say:  ” You’ve had your medicine, now drink your water.”  I grabbed a 16 oz. bottle of water, drank it and went to bed.

The pain never returned.    Now, I had to fail many faith tests before I ever passed any.  This is just one little story; I’m sure that there will be many more.  I look forward to it, I like growing up.

Wow! I love this post. Great testimony and great way to share it with the world. I just stumbled onto your blog but that is great. A friend and I were just talking about healing yesterday and going back and forth and he was saying that he believes that everyone can get healed if they believe and act in faith. I asked him what about all of the people who are saved and do believe that die with the disease? and he responded and said that he cant speak for them but how do i know that they really believed that they would be healed. What do you think on this matter? thanks!

  • A Great Misnomer: “Name it and Claim it! ……..by Elaine Davenport ( Thursday, November « Pray Pray Pray // October 29, 2007 at 9:06 pm

[...] One of the greatest exaggerations to be put on parts of the Body of Christ has been the : “Name It and Claim It” label. It’s also been called a “Positive Confession” Doctrine.” I laughed really hard when I read that part because I thought: “Should I make a negative confession?” For example, when I had my brain tumor, should I have said: “I’m not going to make it, I’ll probably die? Whoever came up with a complaint against positive confession doesn’t understand the word or the concept of faith. Please someone show me how a negative confession is a confession of faith? That goes back to the time someone told me: FAITH WON’T PAY YOUR BILLS! [...]
