Warning: Lusting For Attention! by Elaine Davenport Tuesday, September 9, 2008

I’ve wanted to write about this for a long long time. I admit that I was reluctant to approach the topic thinking that people might misunderstand. However, as I’ve said in more recent times; I’ve been delivered of the opinions of others. You have to be to write a Blog and I write on at least 6.

DRESSSING IN AN UNGODLY MANNER….

There was a woman in our church who wore a dress that was so deeply cut and obviously with a push up bra underneath. I’ve no doubt that she loves the Lord; but I kept wondering: “What was she thinking?” About that time…she literally threw herself to the ground in the middle of praise and worship bending forward. I felt bad for her. I wondered if she had accidentally dressed that way or if she had done it on purpose. Certainly, it wasn’t church attire.   Personally, I can think of no place she could have worn it.  I noticed that she had children and I hoped silently that she would never embarass them with her bold taste on one of her visits to the school. We’re not supposed to look like them. We’re in this world but not of this world. If you haven’t a clue what I’m saying don’t be offended because I’m simply not talking to you.

Even in the body of Christ, we have to be careful because we are affected if not careful by how the world around us dresses. Sometimes, I look at Gospel performers. I don’t understand the dressing that too often simulates what the “world” thinks is in. Of course, not most Gospel performers…but too often I’m surprised.

Now people in the world…like many celebrities; they do that. Don’t get me started; but I’m sure they don’t know any better so please and I’m not being funny…pray for them. My pet peeve is when worldly people sing Gospel. There are singers that you’d love to hear from whose songs cannot appear on any of our sites because we can’t find a picture of them in acceptable clothing to post and that makes no sense. Take for example the singer who wants to sing a Christmas song about God, but dresses in a way that would not be suitable for a church setting. I want to scream: “If Jesus was standing there…would you wear that? “

BAD RAP ON CHRISTIANS…

People in the “world” keep a notebook on what we shouldn’t do. They don’t know that much but a “little” information is dangerous sometimes. Well, I’m keeping a notebook too and you can be sure that God is!

I don’t need to mention the names of the celebrities that we’ve had to not allow on our sites because they sing sons in apparel that is inappropriate for a Christian format.

DO NOT BE CONFUSED

God is not a snob. People can dress the way that they want. However, we must understand that any form of lust is a sin and sin is not acceptable to God. Men unfortunately lust after women in too many cases. It’s a sin that many will grapple with. But, it’s even worse when women lust for the attention of men… and provocatively dress to get their attention; that’s a sin too. Female celebrities do it most of the time. Somehow, they think they’re different; as though they won’t be held to the same standards before God as you and I. In fact, many of them have found a way around Judgment so they think. They’ve left the faith. Unfortunately, they will still get judgment and it will be swift. It all seems so innocent…but don’t be fooled!

THE SAD PART IS

You may as well wear a sign saying: “Look at me…I need attention!” when you make your self up in a manner that is not any where near modest. We see it too often in the body of Christ and that’s not okay.
