Christians Forcing Their Beliefs! by Elaine Davenport Wednesday, September 17, 2008
Editor’s Note: God forgive the people in our history who’ve committed misdeeds in the Name of God. However, that has absolutely nothing to do with our directive to preach the Gospel. The sins and missteps of others must not affect our commitment to God. We give it to God; He’ll take care of it.
We get mail on occasion from people who are hung up on the fact that “Hitler” called himself a Christian, or they’re mad about the bloodshed from the Crusades hundreds of years ago or they’re mad about what the bible says about gays.
Well, about Hitler…that’s proof that the devil can be a part of any religion or faith. As far as what the bible says about gays; God wrote it. He also says liars, gossipers, cheats, murderers, adulterers and fornicators have just as big of a problem. They just hide better or are more easily accepted.
Forcing is a little harsh; but we’re not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! There’s a (spiritual) war going on and the average person doesn’t have a clue.
One of the most common complaints that some have against Christians is that we force our beliefs on other people. No other group seems to get this accusation more than Christians. Who do we credit with this mass lack of confusion? That’s pretty easy but I better say it …Satan; the author of confusion, the thief who comes to destroy, the adversary who roams around seeking whom he may devour.
Imagine a comedian who gets up on stage in front of a large crowd and his or her jokes aren’t funny. Upon closer examination it turns out the problem was they just didn’t make any sense because the audience never fully got the whole story. The comedian had hoped that some hilarious one liners that were crystal clear would really get his message across; but they didn’t. Why? Because words and groups of words may mean different things to different people. That often happens with the bible when people pull out one liners; the worst is that they usually don’t mean what people think because they didn’t take the time to find out:
*Who was talking to whom
* What was it all about
* The story behind it all
I make no pretense to be a part of the Christian Prayer Forces. I recognize the bible and respect it; it’s my directive and not taken out of context with a lot of one liners. I revere God.
Jesus gave us a directive to go out and preach the Gospel to all nations. He didn’t say only if they want you to. These are the last days, time is short and Jesus is coming back as soon as the gospel is preached to all nations….so let’s get it on!
