* This week we were consumed with making funeral arrangements for my loving Uncle Leroy who passed on. m The services were yesterday. I wanted to share with you all a poem that I wrote for him. I also wanted to ask you to lift up his son Leroy Coleman Jr. in prayer. He took care of his father from the time of diagnosis until the very moment that his dad made his transition. He also buried his mom last year and had taken care of her as well for many months. He’s an only child. Thank you so much.

Think about it…if something were to happen to you today (God forbid) and you found yourself at the Gate of Heaven; what baggage would you be carrying that would prevent you from getting in. I encourage you today…to unload it. When you confess Jesus Christ as the Lord and Master of your life and ask him to forgive you of your sins; he is faithful and just to forgive you and to cleanse you of all acts that were not or are not in right standing as though they never happened.

Uncle Leroy and us went a long ways back; that was the family way,
We lived in and out of grandma’s house so we saw him day by day,
People will come and some will exhort: “I knew him very well…” and that may well be true,
But we can say without delay: “He changed our lives…” and he must get his due.
We remember the baseball bats and uniforms and the days of the big big game, willie_mays_photo.jpg
We remember the people and how well he fit in; but we cannot recall the names;
In his life, we saw him set and achieve so many of his goals,
We learned by watching to make the most out of life and this is one of the best stories ever told.

Now Grandma loved her “some” Leroy; she couldn’t wait for him to get off from the plant,
She didn’t mind that he was particular; in fact, she admired him for that,
Every Sunday for years and years, it didn’t matter where he was, or what he was there for,
He’d make his way over to grandma’s house and drive her over to the church front door,churchfront_door.jpg
Not one time was he ever late and I guess that’s why she saved him the best plate. (Oh could she cook!)
We learned by watching to honor and respect our parents, to Bless them and to be people who could be counted upon.
Grandma, Granddad, Snooky and John all passed on from this life,
But Leroy and Mama take flowers to remember them every holiday; they always did what was right.

We saw when God took Uncle Leroy’s hand and poured out His Spirit on him. It wasn’t something so obvious, but the compassion was never dim. The busy schedule had become more tolerable, the baseball and bowling had stopped, and now when you needed a favor and the pressure began to rise; if you called upon Uncle Leroy; his yes was never disguised.
What we learned by watching is that we cannot forget the ones who’ve gone on; God says they’re our tomorrow, if that’s so true…then I can’t understand the need for all of the sorrow.

One day Uncle Leroy had gotten some of that new technology; his son had bought him a phone, He didn’t know how to use it and his son was not at home,
So he jumped in the car and came over to see us, to get us to fix it ASAP, we were surprised to see him at the door as we awakened from a nap.
We fixed the phone and he went his way; we owed him more than that. What we learned is that “this life is but a vapor”; the bible says it’s so…the parents get to be parented, protected, loved and repaid,
For all of the love that they gave to their children until their last and final days.

Last year when we were out mowing lawns, I saw my Uncle rush by,
I ran to catch him and as I went; I wondered how I’d say Hi,
When I got to the car; I was out of breath and he looked up at me and smiled,
I began to ask him about Jesus and he quietly said: “In a while.”
I went back to my mowing and I felt pretty good. Patience was needed…I understood.
Not long after, we visited him at the hospital and he asked us if we would pray; he had never before asked such a request; it was indeed a wonderful day!
I know how Grandma wanted her “Leroy” with her in eternity…she’ll probably bake him a sweet potato cobbler sweetpotatocobbler.jpg and sit him on her knee. One day there was an opening and my sweet Uncle confessed Jesus Christ. It made me happy to see it because now his is eternal life.

What did I learn from all of this you ask; Oh, I truly learned so much, none of us can know everything nor whose life God allows us to touch. If you want to see him in your tomorrows; get yourself together and don’t wait. The bible says:: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to (the) destruction, and many there be which go in :
And it also says that: strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (MATTHEW 7: 13, 14) I’m proud to say that Leroy found the right gate! Don’t you wait until it’s too late!

(If you get a recipe that uses pumpkin spice, it won’t taste like grandma’s. (smile)

Tragedy or a Blessing? (Wednesday, March 5, 2008)

Tragedy or a Blessing?
by: Author Unknown, Source Unknown

Years ago in Scotland, the Clark family had a dream. Clark and his wife worked and saved, making plans for their nine children and themselves to travel to the United States. It had taken years, but they had finally saved enough money and had gotten passports and reservations for the whole family on a new liner to the United States.

The entire family was filled with anticipation and excitement about their new life. However, seven days before their departure, the youngest son was bitten by a dog. The doctor sewed up the boy but hung a yellow sheet on the Clarks’ front door. Because of the possibility of rabies, they were being quarantined for fourteen days.

The family’s dreams were dashed. They would not be able to make the trip to America as they had planned. The father, filled with disappointment and anger, stomped to the dock to watch the ship leave – without the Clark family. The father shed tears of disappointment and cursed both his son and God for their misfortune.

Five days later, the tragic news spread throughout Scotland – the mighty Titanic had sunk. The unsinkable ship had sunk, taking hundreds of lives with it. The Clark family was to have been on that ship, but because the son had been bitten by a dog, they were left behind in Scotland.

When Mr. Clark heard the news, he hugged his son and thanked him for saving the family. He thanked God for saving their lives and turning what he had felt was a tragedy into a blessing.

Although we may not always understand, all things happen for a reason.

Bernadette Todd in The Dominican Republic with little children: Todd spoke to a gathering of elementary students at the school of First Baptist Church, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. She distributed sunglasses as an illustration of her teaching on “Seeing through the Eyes of Jesus

Bernadette Todd and her husband stretched forth out of their comfort zone to go and tell the world about God. It indeed was a noble, bold and daring move. It’s a story that must be told; one that I will joyfully tell over and over again. Please view the video. I’ve enclosed many articles on this young woman that God keeps on my heart that I’ve never met! It’s my prayer that you’ll contact her, encourage them, pray for them and support them as God places it on your heart. All the best.

Two of You! by Elaine Davenport (Monday, March 3, 2008)

Everybody has two sides to them. One side can be seen and the other can’t. What can’t be seen is what you think, how you value yourself, how you make your decisions, who you really are, what makes you tick. You weren’t born that way. You had to develop and make some decisions. The decisions that you have made should include knowledge that you are a spirit created by God. A lot of people don’t know this; never realizing that God looks at the heart. God doesn’t look at anything that reflects who you are from the outside! He looks at your heart.

Your heart holds the key to your victory. It’s time to make some decisions. You’ve got to get into the Word of God and see what God says about you. Adopt God’s plan. You were fearfully made to be beautiful. You can’t buy it; you’ve got to develop it and it’s inside not outside. You’ve got two sides and one of them…holds your Blessing! Don’t be deceived!
