Bernie Mac 1958-2008 “The world just got a little less funny.” George Clooney
“Bernie was a great family man.” Steve Harvey
“I lament the loss of a ferociously funny and hardcore family man. My thoughts are with [his wife] Rhonda and their family. Bernie Mac, you are already missed.” Brad Pitt
“Bernie Mac was one of the best and funniest comedians to ever live, but that was the second best thing he did. Bernie was one of the greatest friends a person could have. Losing him is like losing 12 people because he absolutely filled up any room he was in. I’m gonna miss the Mac Man.” Chris Rock
Our prayers go out to the family of Bernard Jeffrey McCullough; known publicly as Bernie Mac. Truly, he put a lot of humor in our lives and by all acounts was a great guy.
The public never knew what challenges Bernie had faced with pneumonia. He had fought his way back from a bout of double pneumonia not far back.
Bernie Mac had a more recent bout with pneumonia a few weeks back and his family expected him to pull through according to published reports. According to his daughter Jeniece , he had been hospitalized in the Northwestern Memorial Hospital since mid July. He passed Saturday, from complications that arose. He was admitted in critical condition. Reports indicate the he also had been diagnosed with sarcadosis; an autoimmune disease, to what extent that figured in is currently unknown. Bernie and his wife Rhonda McCullough had been married thirty-two years and maintained a home in Frankfort, Illinois outside of Chicago.
Being a star often brings controversy and for Bernie Mac…his moment came when he supposedly used an off color joke at a Barack Obama fundraiser affiliated with the Democratic National Campaign. There was a lot of fallout afterwards and “some” say Bernie was thrown under the bus. I don’t know as I don’t run in those circles. Many of us choose to remember the good times; like when he played the hilarious uncle figure in the Houseparty sequel and on the funny moments on his own show the formerly syndicated Bernie Mac Show.
According to Bernie’s daughter; a public memorial would be held next weekend at House of Hope in Chicago. Bernie, you’ll be missed.
