Cafe Sozo Hits 600,000!

We celebrate   600,000 hits!

Our web designer never thought a  site like this would be popular.  He said we might get 600 hits in 6 months.  He was wrong.  He never figured in the power of God and the power of prayer.

The Glory of God showed up…and even though our stats didn’t “look” like we were going to make it before the New Year came in…we did!  Cafe Sozo hit 600,000 on December 31, 2008 and should easily hit the One Million mark by March or April.  Thank you for your support!

Bailout Madness! Wednesday, December 31, 2008

WHO’S  TRYING TO GET ON THE BAILOUT BANDWAGON? fort-knox You tell me, then we’ll both know.

What’s With The JC Penny’s, Sak’s Fifth Avenue Bailout Rumor?

I  heard a rumor today that JC Penny’s and Sak’s Fifth Avenue wanted to get in the  Government bailout “food line.” (or chain)

I decided to research it for myself.  That couldn’t be right.

There had to be more to it.

A lot …no a ton of people have weighed in on this.  There is zero sympathy for retailers (excluding them) , especially for the larger more affluent retailers.

The real truth is that so many retailers are in trouble; not just Sak’s and Penny’s.  Each store faces a different set of challenges, some not as bad as others.

First off, we don’t know each company’s fiscal bottom line…but here’s a hint:  Go to Google and type in the name of any big store and see what comes up when you type in the store name followed by the word “bankruptcy.”  You may be as shocked as I  was. There is some smoke on the scenes folks…no mirrors though.

It seems that The National Retail  Federation who represents retailers now has asked President  Elect Barack Obama to legislate some tax free shopping days and… (read the rest here)

This response means that there is some wild thinking going on out there…it’s actually dangerous.  Instead of retailers sitting down to cut costs and reasonably expect lower profits…they want the government to help them.    One can make some sense of the need for the United States to assist the Automobile companies.  (well, at least I can)…but I don’t think  that we can “afford” to bail out everyone who “thinks” that the country should bail them out.

You do know that the retailers don’t see the irony.  It’s not in any consumer’s interest to bail out a retailer for the purpose of them having  in store sales where they won’t have to pay taxes.   In some cases…items are marked up one thousand percent.  For example a ten dollar item from Calvin Klein that  sells for $80.00 may net the retailer in a high end store $40.00 per item.  So when they talk about a loss of profits; it just means that they’ve got to take less than the ideal price per item.  So the consumer runs to shop for a discount and will pay the full price ultimately in higher taxes…but  no one highlights this.

This Babylonian system built on debt is  steadily crashing.  The biggest secret that the public never knew about is the massive wealth that has been accumulated off of their backs by private business.

It’s a merry go round that’s running out of fuel…an ending fueled by greed.

It’s a prayer concern…and it’s a good time to get started…sooner rather than later.  Be advised…

All of this “panicking” by retailers is fear.  Fear is faith contaminated.   Retailers are people.   There may be some who have done business cautiously knowing there would be a rainy day.  We applaud the harvest that they will receive as a result.  However, let us pray for God’s mercy for those who “missed” it.   Our prayers can be heard; just like they were when the gas prices came tumbling down,  just like when the Berlin Wall fell, just like when we all have  received out victories and breakthroughs big or small.

P.S.  There’s no point in storming the gates of Fort Knox…the gold isn’t there any more.

Merry Christmas from Cafe Sozo! December 25, 2008

Some music for you to hear as you read our message to you.

This Coffee house is open 24-7

Blessings to you and your family this Christmas Season

Our prayer for you is to see you take a closer walk with God and to put Him first.  Our prayer is to be able to be a Blessing to you by giving you the unfiltered truth of God’s Word, to urge you to prayer, to build your faith, to grow spiritually with you, to sow into your lives, to love you, to consider your need to be our greatest priority in prayer.

We pray for you  to have joy in abundance and laughter beyond measure, for laughter cures our ills and heals our hearts

and joy makes our spirits soar.

My servants shall sing for joy of heart.

Isaiah 63:14

We pray for you  relief when you need it,,

for relief is a release which clears the heart as a cough clears the throat,

and all beyond that we give to God!

Let all those rejoice who put their trust in You.

Psalm 5:11

We pray for you wisdom, for our priceless gift is the gift of choice –

and we should use it well every day, in word and deed.  The Word of God can give us the wisdom that we need.

He who heeds the word wisely will find good.

Proverbs 16:20

For the Lord gives skillful and godly Wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6

We pray for you patience, for most troubles pass if we wait them out,

and success comes with patience.  Faith works with patience.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him.

Psalm 37:7

We pray for you courage, for there may be many pitfalls and dangers ahead

and problems can only be solved when they are faced in faith.  Be strong my friend…no matter what and be confident that God keeps His word.

Be strong and of good courage, so not fear nor be afraid.

For the Lord your God, He is the one who goes with you.

Deuteronomy 31:6

We also pray for your compassion, for we cannot help others until we understand them,

and we cannot understand them until we try; that may come many ways…but we urge you to have compassion  We must have compassion for the weak, the poor, the downtrodden.

Execute true justice, show mercy and compassion everyone to his brother.

Zechariah 7:9

We pray for you a willingness to work, for work turns dreams to reality –

whether the dreams are ours or belong to those we can help.  Working hand in hand with God should be our very desire in our hearts!

Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings.

Proverbs 22:29

We pray for you unwavering faith, for faith shapes our morals

and our destiny and draws us closer to God.

The just shall live by faith alone

Habakkuk 2:4

We pray for you a mind full of hope, for hope determines our attitudes,

sets our goals, and creates our ideals.

You are my hope, O Lord God, You are my trust.

Psalm 71:5

We pray for you a heart so full of love that every day

you must give some away to those whose paths you cross.

Now abide in faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:13

Shoe Throwing Journalist Misses The Bullseye! by Elaine Davenport

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I was not a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

-Pastor Martin Niemoller

Don’t fool yourself…he was supposed to miss hitting President Bush with his shoe.  I’m glad that he missed…I won’t lead you on.  What a dunce!  (the journalist)

Let’s just say that you “loathe” George Bush and you “love” Barack Obama…then you especially ought to  pay attention to the ” desensitization of  respecting the Office of The Presidency.”   Really, if you permit this…you have to ask yourself…what’s next?

As you slowly permit “little injustices” you  also open a door for larger ones to occur.  You’d better think about that.  There can be no double standard here folks.

I just really want to thank Muntadhar al-Zaidi.   For doing such a horrendous thing…you forced me to get off the fence and do the right thing.  You forced me to defend my President…George Bush.

Be very careful BEFORE you even think about supporting  this action…be very careful.

I wish that I could say that I like everything that he’s done.  I wish that we hadn’t had a war (if I’m being honest.)  I wish that the economy was better…and wasn’t in a tailspin….but is it all his fault?  I’m not that stupid and I certainly wouldn’t throw a shoe at him.  We don’t do things that way in this country.  I guess that’s what separates us from the rest of the world.

And…by the way:  “Shame on you for making journalists look bad!”  Shame.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 (King James Version)

1I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

At first, when I heard it…I was shocked.  I was thinking that some American threw a shoe at President Bush.  I knew it was wrong, but I thought:  “Well, maybe it was some guy who lost his job, his house, his car, everything…” But then, when I found out it was a journalist…whose job it is to “report” the news; not create the news…I was confused.

You’ve read all the accounts so let’s take this in a new direction.  First off, to Americans throwing a shoe at the President is pretty much the same as slapping him in the face.  This cannot be done and it will not be tolerated.  Americans are allowed to talk about the President because of the First Amendment which allows freedom of speech; but the “average” person would not throw a shoe at him or slap him in the face.

Clearly, Christians must respect the office of the presidency; whether they “like” President Bush or not.

Here’s are details on the shoe thrower according to

“The shoe-thrower — identified as Muntadhar al-Zaidi, an Iraqi journalist with Egypt-based al-Baghdadia television network — could be heard yelling in Arabic: “This is a farewell … you dog!”

While pinned on the ground by security personnel, he screamed: “You killed the Iraqis!”

First, let me say that I “get it.”    …BUT  I just cannot sympathize with anyone who disrespects the President in such a way.    That was childish.  Just think if we all hit someone with a shoe that we disagree with?  Pretty soon they’d be throwiug shoes with spikes on them and they’d become weapons.  It could really get bad…and it’s just plain dumb.  Schoolchildren teachers, customers, motorists, they’d be throwing shoes in grocery stores, at family dinners…it could really get bad.  Worse, it’s a sign of unforgiveness.  That’s a sin.   What a slippery slope!

That’s one door that we don’t want to open.  (allowing people to throw shoes at whomever they might disagree)

Can We Hit 600,000 in 2008? by Elaine Davenport

Blogger Burnout is a newly explored term for me; if that is what it was.  I’d rather say that my “other” life schedule got so crowded that I had to borrow time from my blogging.  It just wasn’t making sense for me to be on the computer at 12 hour intervals trying to stay on top of 7 sites.  To think that I had seriously thought about adding 3 more (sites)  earlier this year…ha!  But then I realized it was just me and…not God leading me to do that.  We have to be careful of that, no doubt.

Since we are Faith Bloggers…people might ask:  “Is writing for God any easier?”  The answer is YES…we just weren’t using wisdom with our time; (or praying enough concerning direction)  but we are back on track now!

The goodness of God kept the traffic coming.  HALL-LE-LU-JAH!

On Christmas day we here at Cafe Sozo will take time to reflect on the year that we’ve had, the friends that we’ve made along the way and the goodness of God.

Right now we’d like to say that we are poised to hit the 600,000 mark in 10 days and that we couldn’t do it without you and your support.  That said….we humbly t THANK YOU for making us an integral part of your day!
