This is an original piece inspired by an email that I received not long ago. The email was a list of “jokes” about husbands and wives and was “entitled” and then the fight started…that got me to thinking…. you see every married couple has a faith story. It doesn’t matter who you are, how much money you have or where you live; you have a story of how God has moved on your behalf! We’d love to hear it and we will consider publishing it. Please send them to us…
I’m not up on a soapbox; but husbands and wives are supposed to love each other, to honor each other and to cherish each other…marriages that last are first and foremost a friendship of two people who mutually respect each other. Nothing can come between them. When we know that; wisdom abounds.
The husband was sitting at home in front of the television. It was Sunday. His wife quietly asked him if he wanted to go to church with her.
“You know it’s my game day! No way am I going to church and give my money to some preacher!
The wife listened quietly and said nothing in response. She knew that this was a case for El Shaddai…the God that is more than enough.
And then the faith started…
A stay at home mom got tired of living on a small budget. One day she joined a friend for a small outing to a local casino. It seemed harmless. She won about $500.00 on her first visit. It made such a difference that she decided to go back the next day. She didn’t tell her husband, she decided to keep it a secret. After he went to work everyday; she’d get up early and clean up and cook. As soon as her children were off to school; she’d run back to the casino. In the beginning she was winning quite a bit and pretty soon she had begun to lose. She borrowed bill monies and from friends. She also bounced a few checks. Her husband knew nothing of this. One day she realized that she was in over her head. She needed to stop. The situation was out of control. On the steps of the casino leaving one day broke and disgusted she said a prayer and asked God to take this off of her heart…
and then the faith started…
So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17: 20(NKJV)
A wife with bad credit desperately needed a new car to get back and forth to church. She had been in prayer and afterwards was led to give her car away to her child that was in another state struggling to make ends meet with no transportation. She hadn’t really thought it was going to be hard to get around because there still were other cars at her house. However, the people at her house had other commitments and they weren’t able to help her and she was forced often to hitch rides back and forth to church. Oh, if she only had a car.
One night she was led to stay up all night to pray and afterwards, she knew that she was going to get a car the next day. She didn’t know how and she didn’t have money, but she had to trust God.
So she left her home to go buy a car and took two unbelievers with her. One was her husband. When they got to the car dealer’s; the husband announced that his credit was excellent and that he would not co-sign for her to buy a car. The other person that was there spent a lot of time telling her that her credit was too bad to get a car and that a test drive was a bad idea. The husband continually said that he had no money for a down payment and that this was a wasted trip in so many words.
She continued on. She was approved for the car and miracles occurred for her down payment. The husband was amazed at all that happened…he later became born again and often said; that…
this was when his faith started!
To open their eyes that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may thus receive forgiveness and release from their sins and a place and portion among those who are consecrated and purified by faith in Me. Acts 26: 18
