POWER IS AVAILABLE! by Elaine Davenport July 15, 2012

I was in a desperate situation. I was a young woman out on my own.  Even though I was a good person, I made a simple decision which turned out to be a bad one and within minutes my whole life and my future was in danger!  There was nothing that I could do…and there was no one that could help…except God!  All that I could do was pray…and I had to do it so that no one would know.  I was in a dangerous situation.  The power of God came down to where I was and to many other places.  Angels were dispensed to guide and protect me.  The amazing thing is that the power never left.  I sincerely wish that I could tell you more…but the most important thing is that you know that when you pray…power is available to you…and it  will come forth.    I have no strength, but God can strengthen me to do whatever needs to be done!   Fact.

Analogy..(in the natural) .I was driving on an icy winter road this past winter.  I went to put on brakes…it seemed like my car was not responding…I could not see anything happening.  I actually wondered if the car would spin out.  But, everything was under control.  The car did not spin out.  I did not lose control.  The ice did not get the best of us.   However, I had to wait til it was all over to know this.

Same circumstance…I prayed…I asked God to protect us.  After all, I was driving across town to see about my 90 year old aunt who was dying.  The minute that I sent the prayer power was released.  All I had to do was ignore the circumstances and know that God had it all under control.

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Psalms 62:11 God  has spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongs unto God.

Psalms 21:13 Be thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.

The power of God has been present since the beginning of the world!  There can be no miracles, signs and wonders without the power of God.  My life can’t change, my prayers cannot be answered without God’s power.  It is critical.  No one else has this.  This power  is available to ever believer and follower of Jesus ChristPower from on high.  As you read through the bible and read of miracle after miracle…you better know that the POWER of GOD is at work.  That power is available for many reasons.  It is how God works.  So I invite you to egin to search the scriptures to know of the power of God beyond a certainty.

Matthew 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

2 Samuel 22:33 God is my strength and power: and he makes my way perfect.

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.Power Separates Us!

Job 36:22 Behold, God exalts by his power: who teaches like him?

Praying For Yourself Is Important by E. Davenport July 5, 2012

I’ve been assigned to pray for others.  But, it is also in my best interest to pray for myself as well. A lot of seasoned Christians (mature) think it is noble to pray for other people exclusively.  And it truly is; but some of these same people who may know that it is wise to pray for oneself may find themselves struggling with finding a balance.   I am not encouraging people to singularly
focus on themselves.  However, none of us can be equipped to complete our assignments or to follow the course that God has laid out for ourselves without very specific prayer.

I’d like to mention a very specific prayer focus here that many of us have a tendency to overlook.  For some of us it is a little different; but it will be helpful.

*  First, let’s pray for consistency, discipline and sincerity…not showmanship.

*  On our jobs…let’s ask God to refine our hearts to be compassionate, more caring, full of wisdom and humility

* In our families ask God to allow us to be the shining light that people want to be around.  Let’s ask Him to remove all smugness, pride and false humility from us.

* In our neighborhoods, let us pray specifically for our neighbors and that God will do a work in us allowing us to excel in our helpfulness, in our good works, causing us to soar in such a way that is consistent.  That our faithfulness is these areas will cause people to want to take a God walk of their own.

* In our everyday lives as we intermingle with merchants, customer service professionals and strangers that our politeness, our words, our actions will be so impactful that people will want to know more about us and what we do.

* In our interactions with other Christians…let us pray to discard legalism and denominationalism am embrace our similarities; the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let our prayers be prayers to strengthen our faith, to trust God, to seek wisdom…to experience and show Hod’s love…to guard our heart and patrol (yes) our words….

I have to make a confession.  I had to repent recently for falling victim going along with another person’s opinion. It turns out that the opinion was not biblical.  I did not know because I wasn’t thinking and I did not check.  Perhaps, others have fallen victim to the opinions of others.  There is no better reference than the bible.

Finally….remember that Jesus not only prayed for others and for guidance, He also prayed for himself.  Have you read the Book Of Psalms?  There are tons of references to David searching himself, worshipping God, encouraging himself, praying for himself and giving thanks.    But remember, prayer brings us into an intimate place with God and that is the place where we
want to be!   Hallelujah!

True Independence Day! By Elaine Davenport July, 2012

The American Revolution was just as much a spiritual movement as it was political.  “One nation under God” is interwoven in the American fiber.  There are a few, that claim discontent  over some of the things that have happened over the years, but I am not one of them. In fact, I am very glad that I am here in the USA  and I love my country!  I could fill a book with the things that I did not know about The Fourth of July.  For instance, I did not know or remember that The Declaration of Independence was written before the Revolutionary War!  It was ratified in 1776. The war lasted from 1775-1783.   I did not know about so many Women and African Americans who were so deeply involved; many of them heroes in the true sense of the word.    People like Deborah Sampson who disguised herself as a man and fought on the front lines.  People like American double spy James Armistead whose information greatly shortened the war.

I know some people who keep a long list of everything that the Christians have done wrong.  Some of the things are  valid; but that was them  (or then)  and not me or the believers that I know.   I do not mnimize it.  God is judge.  And that is a side note for somebody.   Name a group and I suppose if they are human, they have done something that we could dialog about…or we could PRAY.  That’s my preference.

The 4th of July is such an important date in the United States.  It represents so much.  One significant thing that we need to remember is that  people of  dissimilar backgrounds came together to fight against oppression.  I think a lot of people rightfully so focus on those who fought and died for our country so that we enjoy the freedom from foreign control and oppression.  However, another critical  part that is not nor has been pointed out in most of our education systems is the fact that it was a movement firmly rooted with a spiritual base.

As one scholar so eloquently states :

“Religion played a major role in the American Revolution by offering a moral sanction for opposition to the British–an assurance to the average American that revolution was justified in the sight of God. As a recent scholar has observed, “by turning colonial resistance into a righteous cause, and by crying the message to all ranks in all parts of the colonies, ministers did the work of secular radicalism and did it better.”

Ministers served the American cause in many capacities during the Revolution: as military chaplains, as penmen for committees of correspondence, and as members of state legislatures, constitutional conventions and the national Congress. Some even took up arms, leading Continental troops in battle.”  (SEE MORE)

My point…this was a  movement and it was as much spiritually based as a movement fo independence.  I think it is sad that it’s seen solely as a political movement.    A great reference worth reading is:  “Resistance To Tyranny As A Christian Duty by Jonathan Mayhem.

Uncle John was not significantly educated, but because he could save money, was witty , believed in a good education(ironically or as a result of his experiences from life) and  fun to be around; everybody respected him.  At one of our family reunions in the midst of a few family folk who never talk the way Uncle John was about to speak; he proudly exclaimed:   “AMERICA IS THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD AND YOU COULD NOT GIVE ME ANOTHER ONE!     The only thing that he didn’t do was break out with Jennifer Holiday‘s song:   “I’m Gonna Love You…I’m Not Leaving…”

Let the chips fall where they may.    As I said, everybody respected him and all of us either nodded or agreed out loud.

I certainly love my country the United States Of America.    And I have heard a lot of “politically religious folk say:   “America’s gonna get it for all of the dirt that she has done!”   WHAT?

Obviously, these people do not have an insight on the Bible; God’s living Word and the power of prayer.  If America has missed it; God has heard the cry of prayer warriors and forgiven.   You see Noah asked God about sparing Sodom and Gomorrah for righteous men.  Well he kept going down on the numbers and Sodom and Gomorrah was ultimately destroyed so there must not have been any people who  were in right standing with God.  Again here we are talking about the ability of a person who  PRAYS  and their ability to touch the heart of God.  You see prayer is talking,  being in fellowship  and communing with God.

Also,  Moses,,,interceded on behalf of the children of Israel to ask God to give them mercy when they were in the wilderness.

As my pastor always says:  “Justice is when we get what’s coming to us.  Mercy is when we don’t.”

For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.  GALATIANS 5: 13

I believe true Independence can be assured by knowing this history and retaining these values.  Faith in Jesus Christ.  I am not kidding you!
