What Will They Tell God? by Elaine Davenport January 26

Every single person has a call on their lives.  Some believe it; while others do not.  God is sending all kinds of messages to people to motivate them and touch their hearts.  He may send a stranger, a friend, a family member, a neighbor.  Or, God may just decide to speak to your heart. I know…it happened to me.

Sixteen years ago, God began to speak to me heart to start a newsletter in my subdivision.  I wasn’t even attending church then but I knew it was God. I knew it by the process of elimination.  Surely the devil wasn’t asking me to do it.

But, I admit that I couldn’t understand why God wanted me to do it.  I kept thinking:  “How is that going to help God?”

Horribly perplexed, I asked my husband what he thought.  I explained that I would have to bear the total cost.  He laughed and then in a very serious voice he exclaimed:  “No point in that…we’re moving.”

Oh, I exclaimed.

But, the voice persisted.  “Write a newsletter!”

Now, I did not know beans about hearing from God…but I heard that voice.    So I wrote the newsletter, printed several hundred copies and passed them out to all of my neighbors.  It was a huge hit!  I did this for several years.

I now realize it was not only practice for what I’m doing now, for leadership in other endeavors and more importantly it was building my sensitivity to hearing God and obeying.

If God speaks to my heart, He will also speak to yours and I often wonder what people will tell God when He asks them why they didn’t listen and obey?  I wonder.

I think about Gideon.    Though certainly  I cannot compare myself to him; yet I strive to acquire his level of obedience.  When God had Gideon to gather an army to fight the Midianite army of 135,000 soldiers; only 32,200 showed up. God told him to find out who was afraid and 22,000 soldiers raised their hands.  God had Gideon to send them home.

Then with only 10,000 soldiers left God told Gideon to take them to a nearby stream of water and to watch them.  All of the men who laid on their stomachs while drinking were to be sent home.  That left Gideon with only 300 soldiers and they went into battle and whooped the Midianites!  Yeah!

Gideon was a fine example of a man who believed and obeyed God.  What will you tell God.  Yes, you love Him; but do you love Him enough to spend time with Him or to follow the exact instructions that He gives you?
