Fornication Is Not A Joke! by Elaine Davenport March 5-12, 2010

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.   Hosea 4: 6

Imagine my surprise when I overheard  some radio personalities lightheartedly posing worldly considerations regarding fornication and tithing.  They did a “skit.”   In it there was a man supposedly speaking to his pastor and the question he posed was that he could not afford to pay his tithe and pay his rent.  He also wanted permission to fornicate.  He asked the pastor (thereabouts) if it would be okay for his girlfriend to move in with him and the pastor said something like if you have to choose between the two; shack up!

TITHING HAS NEVER BEEN TIED TO FORNICATION….I HESITATE TO SAY MORE UNLESS OFFENSE MIGHT SEND SOMEONE TO HELL!

WHAT?????

Yes, people neither person had an idea that the tithe is not negotiable.  Obviously, if they did…there would have been no skit.  No jokes, no laughs, no radio program trying to draw in listeners who float on the fringes or people who don’t who allow themselves to slowly become desensitized.

Another reason that the show was a turn off is because “every pastor” is not some easily compromised person swayed by money which the skit implied!

The announcer who is quite popular made it a point beforehand to say “You know how I like to poke at my church family.”

That was the preceding statement.  I suppose a good shrink would have a ball with that one.

Really, I am so tired of Christians being quiet when insinuations of error go forth to the masses. I could just ignore it; but I’ve recently found out that that are many young people (and probably old ones too) who do not know that fornication is wrong!

Fornication is sexual sin.  The bible says that sex outside of marriage is sin. The bible does not recognize sex between the same gender.

The reason this type of “joking” bothers me is:

1. Someone will believe it is okay and end up in hell.

2. Someone will miss or delay God’s plan for their lives.

3.  The wages of sin including this one can be death…there are countless cases that prove this; everyday.    If fornication is a sin’ then that sin can put one in the wrong place at the wrong time.   (HIV Aids, premature death, murder, car accidents, cancer and many strange occurrences…and it makes one wonder.)   I am simply asking you to consider the relationship between the two; if we’re being honest.

4. It’s this type of “worldly” attitude that Muslims use to recruit people.  They feel that Christians aren’t serious about God.  They believe that we are unable to discipline ourselves and to put God first.  Too often, sadly that is true. They have their faults too…I’ve observed them and the grass is not greener on the “other” side.

Look below:  the bible says that when we are joined to the Lord; we are one spirit.  That is true whether you feel it or not!    We are advised to run from sexual sin.  It says that there is no other sin that affects the body so much!  WOW!    The bible says that you commit “this sin” against your body.  Then it says your body is the temple of God.  Where God resides.  So, as you ignore this and justify your fornication and that it is harmless…remember that God is there whether you choose to ignore Him or not.   When you fornicate you are disrespecting God and being disobedient!   He’s the same God that you respect when you need money or when you want that house or that car or that bank account out of the hole…the same one!

THINK ABOUT THAT!!!

1 Corin 9

7 But the person who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.

18 Run away from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.

19 Or don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,

20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
