Reluctant Faith! by E. Davenport June 22, 2012

People have a tendency to fall into different categories when it comes to faith.

1.  They have enough faith for  themselves and others.

2.  They have faith at certain times, but it leaks out and “thoughts of doubt” creep in and they really don’t know if their current situation can get any better.

3. They have very little faith…but they want to have it;   Often if they know someone who has what they think is more faith than they have…this will suffice.  I’m not poking fun at anyone…I was like that.   It was my starting point at a time of despair.

4.  NO faith at all…do not even believe in it.

And I imagine there may even be more subgroups.

Even if you have a whole lot of faith…you gotta work to keep it.  Having a lot of faith takes discipline.  I am not talking about obedieence.  Obedience for some people is keeping a checklist and scratching things off.  It’s very close to forms of legalism and if one is not careful; they might be doing tasks for duty’s sake instead of because they love God.  It can spill over into other things and mess us up if we aren’t careful  Let me givbe you a greaT EXAMPLE:

WHEN TWO PEOPLE FIRST FALL IN LOVE, THEY DO NOT TAKE EACH OTHER FOR GRANTED.  iN FACT, THEY WILL GO TO GREAT LENGTHS TO COMMUNICATE AND EXPRESS THEIR LOVE.  tHEY WILL EVEN WORK HARD TO KEEP COMMUNICATIONS OPEN AND TO DO WHAT IS PLEASING IN THE SITE OF THEIR MAYE.

A  HONEYMOON IS CONSIDERED TO BE A PERIOD OF bLISSFUL HARMONY.  iT’S USUALLY A VACATION AWAY FROM REALITY.  pEOPLE TAKE EXPENSIVE VACATIONS THAT THEY OFTEN CANNOT AFFORD AND THEN HAVE TO RETURN TO “REAL LIFE.”

When many of us come to God, we are so on fire!  It’s a blissful much needed time of peace and solace.  We will do anything to please God and we are full of energy doing things from our hearts and NOT out of a sense of duty.  But, then life’s troubles or storms arise and if we are not careful we can become less committed, less fired up, less full of faith.

Our walk of faith must be strong and decisive!  One of the main ways that we can stay sharp is to keep the Word of God before us and to open it, read it, think on it and act on it.  We can develop a strong consistent life of prayer.  Nothing beats having a heart and a habit …a natural one…of praise.

When you pray…ask God to strengthen you in this area.  Some of the ways that He will answer you will definitely surprise you; but out of the experience your faith will be strengthened!  Image
