Thank your way to your breakthrough! by Elaine Davenport Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Givingthanks

16-18Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live. 1 Thessalonians 5:  16-18 (Message Bible)

SOMETIMES THE ANSWERS THAT WE REALLY NEED ARE SIMPLE.

We really need to get this.  We really do.  Your breakthrough may only be a thank-you away.

A lot of people do everything right…but things seem to come slowly or happen slowly.  Could they be missing one little thing?    I know that I was; until I discovered the Joy of Giving Thanks.

I talk to people all of the time.  Some need favor from God, some need the wisdom of God, a good many want provision.  Some people face the impossible and they need more than provision; they need a miracle out of the impossible.  They need to call on the Glory of God.  They need for their faith to reach it’s highest peak ever!  Some people simply need increase.  While they may think the increase needed is financial…that may just be a symptom of increase needed in another area.  But, that’s another story.

Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. Philippians 4: 6

Now that you are thinking about what we need; let’s get to the point.

A friend told me about a critical call that she received from some faith people.  Faith people are ordinary people.  There are a ton of good ones with great values.  There are some that lose sight of things.  This friend was in a major panic.  Her daughter was about to be evicted and she needed a mere couple of hundred dollars to avoid being thrown out.  So my friend  came to the rescue.  Her heart strings were tugged and she acted out of compassion.   They really thanked her.  Over and over.  They were so thankful that she would have helped them again and again except for one thing.  They never paid her back.

If you were to look over your life; especially towards your children…you would realize that when they are thankful or because you know that they will be thankful…you want to help them more.

God is much  the same way towards us His children.   He has laid out some rules on giving thanks…

let’s look:

First of all, then, I admonish and urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men. 1 Timothy 2: 1

This is first…

Let there be no filthiness (obscenity, indecency) nor foolish and sinful (silly and corrupt) talk, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting or becoming; but instead voice your thankfulness [to God]. Ephesians 5: 4

This is saying don’t get mad…give thanks.  That is becoming.

For all [these] things are [taking place] for your sake, so that the more grace (divine favor and spiritual blessing) extends to more and more people and multiplies through the many, the more thanksgiving may increase [and redound] to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 4: 15

Here it says…if you Divine favor and spiritual blessing….give thanks

GIVING THANKS IS A SACRIFICE:

Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High.
Psalm 50:14
